There are a lot of questions about the coronavirus (COVID-19) mostly what to do about it and what can be done for it. As with any virus it is important to boost your body’s own immune system and take specific precautions to minimize exposure to the virus.

If you are having minor symptoms and want to be tested for the coronavirus the state has drive through sites set up. Call the coronavirus hotline at 1-888-374-8824 for locations. If you are sick and have symptoms that are concerning then come in to be evaluated. This could include chest x-rays, blood work and lab testing to see if you have influenza (the flu) or something else. We can test for influenza here in the office and it takes 5 minutes. We will monitor for secondary infection like pneumonia and any supportive care that may be needed.

It is important to do the following to avoid spreading any virus:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • Use antibacterial gels with at least 60% alcohol
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Cough into a tissue or your elbow sleeve as the droplets can float through the air and infect others
  • Stay 6 feet from others as the virus can be airborne in droplets this far
  • Say home if you are sick
  • Get adequate sleep
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surface daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
