Insights by: Dr. Gary Olsen DC CSCS

Conclusion: This 2 week trial had participants do high intensity interval training(HIIT) for 6 sessions. Those with type 2 diabetes had a significant improvement in their glucose and fatty acid uptake. HIIT involves performing intense anaerobic activities for a short period, usually 30 seconds followed by a few minutes of less intense recovery exercises.

These changes were made in 2 weeks! This study supports other research that shows exercise as a very simple and cost effective way to help those with diabetes. See your doctor before starting a program. Exercise can reduce your need for medications and your doctor can help balance this. Get moving! Find a program that works for you and be consistent.
